REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. - Members of the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command paused Aug. 13 to recognize excellence in several forms.

In a ceremony at the command's Redstone Arsenal headquarters, the recognitions began with an induction of six noncommissioned officers to the prestigious Sergeant Audie Murphy Club.

The inductees were: Sgt. 1st Class Victor Marzan, command surgeon office; Sgt. 1st Class Chrystal Friendly, SMDC G-1 office; Staff Sgt. Seamus Lynch, 1st Space Battalion; Staff Sgt. Richard Mathieson, 49th Missile Defense Battalion; Staff Sgt. Richard Murphy, 49th Missile Defense Battalion; and Sgt. Brandon Kitchen, 53rd Signal Battalion. The inductees were each presented with an Army Achievement Medal.

Following the induction, five senior noncommissioned officers received a certificate of honorary membership to the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club. Honored were: Command Sgt. Maj. Thomas Eagan, 1st Space Brigade command sergeant major; Command Sgt. Maj. Russ Hamilton, 100th Missile Defense Brigade command sergeant major; Command Sgt. Maj. John Drew, 49th Missile Defense Battalion command sergeant major; Sgt. Maj. Marcus Jones, acting 1st Space Battalion command sergeant major; 1st Sgt. Joshua Ochs, Headquarters and Headquarters Company first sergeant.

Next, the SMDC Civilians of the Year, Soldier of the Year, and NCO of the Year were presented to the command.

The Civilians of the Year were selected in three categories. The winners were: Stephanie Dufour, G-2, for supporting staff; Thomas Gray, Future Warfare Center, for professional/technical; and tied in the management category were Joseph Moscone, U.S. Army Kwajalein Atoll, and Peter Stauffer, G-6. The civilans of the year were each presented with a Commander's Award for Civilian Service.

The SMDC Soldier of the Year is Sgt. Anthony Moore, Alpha Detachment, 1st Space Company, 1st Space Battalion, Kelley Barracks, Germany, and the SMDC NCO of the Year is Sgt. Brandon Kitchen, Bravo Company, 53rd Signal Battalion, 1st Space Brigade, Colorado Springs, Colo., who was the command's Soldier of the Year in 2011.
