The workforce at the Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region and the U. S. Army Military District of Washington brought out their competitive edge during the Organizational Day held at Fort McNair, D.C. Aug. 17.
The annual event was filled with a full day of competitive games, children's activities, music, static displays, K9 demonstration and a catered picnic lunch hosted by Maj. Gen. Michael S. Linnington, commanding general, JFHQ-NCR/MDW.
"It's great to see everyone and their families out in a relaxed atmosphere," said Maj. Louis J. Boston, chief of military justice, Staff Judge Advocate, JFHQ-NCR/MDW. "The best part is the sense of unity and togetherness across the organization."
"I love that there was an activity for all ages," said Wanda Squirewell, JFHQ-NCR/MDW Operations (J/G3). "The whole day was filled with smiles, laughs, and fun."
The fitness events consisted of basketball, volleyball, hula hoop race, horse shoes, softball skills, and the fitness run/walk.
These events combined with the best looking motorcycle competition (per directorate) and baking contest fundraising campaign determined the winner of the 2012 Commanders Cup trophy.
"The competition was outstanding," said Boston. "It's amazing see all the people participating and their other talents."
Fellowship was at an all-time high when the friendly competition made each staff member stick together as a team to fight for the 2012 headquarters staff winners.
"This organization does so many impressive things on a daily basis, but a lot of us have true athletic talent," said Boston. "The competition is fierce in MDW!"
"Friendly competition is definitely needed during org day," said Squirewell. "But at the end of the day, we'll always cheer for each other."
Winners of this year's 2012 Commanders Cup trophy were the Operations Directorate (J/G3) bringing home the gold.
"Our team did well and worked hard," said Boston. "We just fell a little short this year."
"J/G3 has been prepping all year for this day," said Squirewell. "All that hard work paid off."
