PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. -- The Ord Military Community Main Exchange celebrated its $2.5-million renovation with a grand-opening event July 26.

To kick off the festivities, Presidio of Monterey Garrison Commander Col. Joel Clark, Presidio of Monterey Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Olga B. Martinez and Exchange General Manager JoAnne Cahalan cut a ceremonial red, white and blue ribbon in front of an enthusiastic crowd of shoppers and employees.

After the ribbon-cutting event the sales day began, and Exchange associates welcomed customers to check out the new design and enjoy refreshments and prizes.

The Exchange's new look is extensive.

Cahalan explained that this has been the "most challenging and rewarding renovation" she has ever completed.

For the remodel, the Exchange partnered with MTM Construction, City of Industry, California to complete a nine-phase construction process over the last seven months, said Cahalan, adding that every phase consisted of clearing a 10,000- to 15,000-square-foot area and turning it over to the construction team within a one-day turn-around period.

After the construction company completed its portion of the job, the local Exchange associates installed all the store display units, while continuing to assist customers, she said.

The $2.5 million upgrade was the facility's first renovation in 35 years, said Cahalan. It consisted of merchandising innovations, including a new expanded PowerZone, which features test-model cameras and laptops, an expanded television wall and a small Apple concept shop.

Additionally, in response to customer requests, the remodel includes an expansion of the cosmetics with a larger selection of name brand and prestige cosmetics, said Cahalan.
