By Spc. John G. MartinezAugust 14, 2012
Secretary of the Army John McHugh conducts an official visit to the Mongolian Ministry of Defense to meet with senior officials. Thousands of Mongolian peacekeepers have contributed to world stability over the last 10 years, an impressive contribution for a country of its size. The Mongolian Armed Forces are highly regarded by American Soldiers who have served with them in Iraq and Afghanistan. Currently, approximately 700 troops conduct base security and train the Afghan National Army artillery. In March, Mongolia was designated as the first NATO "partner" under the Individual Partnership and Cooperation Program. McHugh will also observe U.S. service members participating in Exercise Khaan Quest 2012, a regularly scheduled, multinational exercise sponsored by the U.S. Army, Pacific, and hosted annually by the Mongolian Armed Forces.
