REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. -- Major General Patricia E. McQuistion, the incoming U.S. Army Materiel Command's Deputy Commanding General, was promoted to lieutenant general during a ceremony held here, Aug. 2.

General Ann E. Dunwoody, U.S. Army Materiel Command's Commanding General presided over the ceremony reflecting on McQuistion's talents.

"What is so impressive about Pat are the things you can't read on her bio…she is able to inspire people and has passion and compassion," said Dunwoody. "She knows how to take care of Soldier, civilians and their families," said Dunwoody.

Dunwoody continued by stating McQuistion's experience and abilities will be a perfect fit for her new role as the AMC deputy commanding general.

McQuistion told colleagues, friends and family, including her husband, Col. (Ret.) Leif Johnson that she was honored to have been promoted and thanked Dunwoody for her faith and confidence in selecting her as the new AMC Deputy Commanding General.

"I am excited about the way ahead," said McQuistion.

McQuistion has served in numerous assignments, starting as a maintenance platoon leader and S-1 for the 25th Infantry Division (Light) at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii and then as a protocol officer for the U.S. Army Western Command at Fort Shafter, Hawaii. She then moved to Germany, where she served as a company commander in the 56th Field Artillery Command (Pershing) and as maintenance officer for V Corps, Seventh Army.

In September 2006, McQuistion went to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, as U.S. Army Sustainment Command deputy commanding general with duty as commanding general of Army Materiel Command-Forward (Southwest Asia), director of operational sustainment, and G-4 for U.S. Army Central Command.

McQuistion most recently served as the Commanding General, U.S. Army Sustainment Command, Rock Island, Ill.

While at the podium McQuistion humbly credited her success and development as a leader to the guidance and support of her mentors, peers, family and friends, many of whom were present for the ceremony.

McQuistion received Senate confirmation on April 26 and will assume duties as the AMC Deputy Commanding General on Aug. 7.
