ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. -- A senior manager was named employee of the year by the U.S. Army's Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center, or CERDEC, here, June 19.
Ron Szymanski was recognized in the senior management category for his work as the associate director for systems engineering for CERDEC's Command, Power and Integration, or CP&I, Directorate. His work directly led to changes within CP&I that have enabled the directorate to become a recognized leader in the application of handheld digital device technology.
Szymanski was appointed CERDEC representative to the Mobile Computing Environment Working Group by CERDEC Director Jill Smith. The MCE WG is intended to chart the Army's future with respect to handheld devices. To ensure the MCE WG remains relevant to the Soldier, Mr. Szymanski remains in contact with active deployed units. Szymanski also represented CERDEC at Apple's Executive Forum for Federal Chief Information Security Officers.
Outside his official duties, Szymanski works to better his fellow employees and takes part in outreach events. He worked with others to establish and lead a Toast Masters group that meets regularly during employee lunch times to help fellow workers hone their briefing and presentation skills. Szymanski also regularly volunteers for the eCybermission program to help and mentor students following technical career paths.
His position has allowed him to be a "more effective advocate for the Soldier, with the abilities to provide needed technical solutions for the Army," according to his nomination package.
