BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan -- The 10th Sustainment Bri-gade hosted a Tough Warrior Team Competition on May 28 at the Muleskinner Gym here. The competition consisted of six two-man teams that competed in seven events.
The teams competed in the body weight bench press and dead lift, pull-ups, kettle bell shuttle, three minutes of pushups and sit-ups, and a 25-yard tire flip.
The competition fostered esprit de corps and allowed Soldiers to work as teams and demonstrate their physical fitness conditioning.
"The goal of the competition was to give Soldiers a full body workout and encourage them to get out and work on their physical fitness," said Sgt. 1st Class Miguel Ortiz, a distribution noncommissioned officer in charge assigned with 10th Sustainment Brigade.
Muleskinners throughout the brigade came out to support and cheer on the competitors.
"We're very satisfied with the outcome of the event and hope that all the spectators (who) were there will spread the word about the competition so next month we can have more competitors come out and compete," said Sgt. 1st Class Bryan Burton, electronic warfare NCOIC assigned to 10th Sustainment Brigade.
In the end, it was Staff Sgt. Brandon Butler, an operations NCO, and Staff Sgt. Phillip Beaufort, a supply sergeant, both assigned to 10th Sustainment Brigade, who were declared the winners.
"My confidence was real high. Butler and I trained real hard and thought we would win every event in the competition," Beaufort said.
To prepare for the competition, Beaufort said he started out with doing cardio in the morning, weight training in the afternoon and participating in the "Insanity" workout at night.
"My advice to anyone who wants to compete in these challenges is to do the basics, eat right, exercise, rest and maximize your time in the gym," Beaufort said.
The brigade plans to host another competition June 24 with different events.
"This type of competition is a great thing, and I encourage more people to come out and compete because it helps build confidence and team building," Beaufort explained.
