VICKSBURG, Miss. - Soldiers from the 412th Theater Engineer Command joined local residents in remembering the fallen on Memorial Day.

Roughly 15 volunteered to support a number of activities held throughout the day.

A four-Soldier Color Guard kicked things off with the Parade of Veterans and led the procession along Washington Street and Jackson Street. Later they posted the Colors at the Memorial Service in the city auditorium.

A second team that consisted of a 7-Soldier detail fired a 21-Gun Salute during the Wreath Laying Ceremony.

Both teams rehearsed long hours days prior to ensure smooth execution on show day.

Gertrude Brown, mother of three and a resident of Vicksburg, said she was impressed and grateful for the Soldiers' participation every year. "It was nice to see them out there. They did great, and they add a special meaning to what Memorial Day is all about," said Brown.
