As part of the United States military drawdown in Iraq, CECOM Software Engineering Center's field support has relocated its 402nd Army Field Support Brigade Regional Office from Iraq to Kuwait.

SEC field support engineers, digital systems engineers and communications field technicians provide 24/7 onsite support to a number of Army systems including Distributed Common Ground System -- Army, Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System, FireFinder and Counter Remote Control Improvised Explosive Device Electronic Warfare.

"Their job is to make sure these advanced computer systems are battle-ready at a moment's notice," said Gary Clerie, director of SEC's Field Support Directorate.

Starting in May of 2011, SEC began the early phases of the drawdown by reducing the number of personnel in the region. Four months later in September 2011, most of our personnel had moved back to their home stations. "Our remaining SEC personnel and programs have been relocated to Kuwait to support enduring missions of the US Army Forces, US Central Command mission," said Clerie.

Throughout the transition, SEC closely coordinated efforts with the affected units as well as with the program managers of the associated systems to ensure mission continuity without any degradation in quality.

"When it came to moving the largest program, we used a leap frog approach that took advantage of redundant servers to relocate the fusion brain, a virtual warehouse of tactical intelligence data," said Clerie. "While this process was challenging, I am proud to say, the move to Kuwait did not disrupt tactical intelligence operations."
