YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea -- Having the right job, a job that fits, is very important for both employees and employers. To ensure Soldiers make the right decision, U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan's Eighth Army Retention Office conducted Mobile Retention Training, May 21-24.
Over a hundred Soldiers graduated at the Dragon Hill Lodge's Naija Ballroom, where Eighth Army's Command Sgt. Maj. Rodney D. Harris spoke of the importance of the retention program.
Harris said the Army Retention Program is one of the commander's programs that require active participation, support and interest at all levels. The program teaches retention NCOs how to foster an environment to encourage high quality, career-minded Soldiers to stay in the Army either in active or reserve component.
Sgt. 1st Class Christopher Gardner, an instructor at the Soldier Support Institute, flew all the way to South Korea from Fort Jackson, S.C., to teach the four-day course.
"With the ever changing face of today's Army, and realignment of the forces, it is imperative that Soldiers and Leaders are well educated on the retention program that we have today," Gardner said.
One of the graduates showed her motivation and excitement by accepting new responsibilities after the training. She emphasized the importance of her job for the Soldiers and the Army.
"This is my 5th mobile retention training," said Sgt. Kristi Kennedy, retention NCO from 275th Signal Company for 1st Signal Brigade. "I always learn a lot from the retention training. We have to focus on retaining quality Soldiers. We as NCOs need to know how to do that, how to provide the Soldiers the leadership and counseling on their re-enlistment options."
