Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan- The troops of the 246th Quartermaster Detachment (QM DET) , US Army Reserve-Puerto Rico, currently mobilized in Afghanistan, received the visit from the President of the United States, during Pres. Obama's visit to the country at the beginning of May 2012.

According to Maj. Federico Martinez, commander of the unit based in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, Obama met with the Puerto Rican troops for several minutes.

"He (Pres. Obama) told the Mortuary Affairs Collection Point team leader that he already knew that we were a Reserve unit that came from Puerto Rico," said Martinez.

The 246th QM DET provides logistical support during the preparation and transportation of fallen Soldiers.

The unit, which departed from Puerto Rico in Jan. 2012, has a considerable number of troops assigned, who have been previously mobilized in support of Overseas Contingency Operations since 2001.
