WASHINGTON (May 16, 2012) -- Another record-breaking milestone! The 2012 Army Ten-Miler filled its 30,000 runner field in record time. ATM officials announced yesterday that the 28th annual race shattered all previous race registration records for both the priority and general registrations. The highly anticipated race will take place on Sunday, Oct. 21 starting and finishing at the Pentagon; runners will pass such national landmarks as the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument.

Priority registration opened on May 1 at 12:01 a.m. for all U.S. service members and runners who have participated in seven or more ATM races. Approximately one-third of the total 30,000 race entries were reserved for priority registration on a first-come-first-serve basis. This year, priority registration sold out in less than 19 hours exceeding last year's record of three days.

The remaining two-thirds of the race entries became available to the general public, on a first-come-first-serve basis, on May 15, which also sold out in record time in less than 9 hours.

"The race continues to gain in popularity and sells out in record time year after year," said Jim Vandak, race director. "We are genuinely grateful to all of our loyal runners for supporting the Army's race. They are the true spirit of the sport."

ATM is continuing the online transfer program for individuals that missed the registration. Starting on June 1, the seller may find a buyer to initiate the transfer on the ATM website by filling out the form under the transfer tab under "Registration." The transfer program will conclude on August 31.

The Army's 28th annual Army Ten-Miler race is produced by the U.S. Army Military District of Washington (MDW) and attracts more than 30,000 military and civilian runners from around the word. All race proceeds benefit Army Morale, Welfare and Recreation that supports Soldier and Soldier family programs.

The Army's premier running event is the third largest 10-mile race in the world. The two-day Health & Fitness Expo preceding the race hosts over 75 exhibitors and 35,000 attendees. Race day activities include a "world class" race with elite athletes, live music, Hooah Tents from Army installations around the world showing military pride, youth runs presented by Health Net, and interactive Army displays.
