YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea- You may or may not have recognized Korean National Police strolling the perimeter of U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan. They always stand guard at the gates, ensuring security at the border of garrison Yongsan 24/7 regardless of inclement weather to protect our Community.
In order to highlight their selfless service and provide them a hearty thanks, USAG Yongsan invited 90 Korean National Police on to post, May 14.
Garrison commander Col. William Huber warmly welcomed each officer as buses filled with the policemen and women arrived and expressed his gratitude on behalf of garrison Yongsan.
"It is my pleasure and honor to join you for today's KNP appreciation event and welcome you to USAG Yongsan," Huber said. "The Servicemembers, Families and Civilians you protect owe you a debt of gratitude."
After sharing the long history of the relationship between KNP on the perimeter of Yongsan and Itaewon Community with town patrols and courtesy patrols, the honored guests were treated to a brief on-post windshield tour.
"It is a rare and important chance to look around the installations we protect and learn the different lifestyles of Servicemembers on post as we KNP serve most of our time being on the lookout off post," said Lt. Yang, Hyoun-ho, inspector of Seoul Yongsan Police Station.
As part of their day of appreciation, the KNP were also treated to lunch at Honor's Café and a special screening of "Safe House" starring Denzel Washington at the Multi Purpose Training Facility.
"KNP have stood guard 365 days a year in the rain, snow, sleet, cold, humid and heat," Huber said. "And your job is very challenging and very difficult but it is highly respected and regarded by us, members of Yongsan Community."
