CAMP HENRY, Korea - The 403rd Army Field Support Brigade held a send-off party for William "Bill" H. Rutherford III, deputy to the commander who deployed to Afghanistan. The March 29 send-off event at Henry's Place at Camp Henry, Daegu, South Korea, was attended by family, friends, Soldiers and brigade staff members.
"Mr. Rutherford's service to the nation over the past years [indicates] how he balances duties as a leader with the commitment to do good to everyone, caring for Soldiers and staff. Mr. Rutherford looked for every opportunity to do well," said Col. Michael Lopez, commander of the 403rd Army Field Support Brigade.
Lopez also thanked Rutherford and his family for his work with the Army and to the nation and wished him "Godspeed and good luck."
Rutherford thanked Lopez for his remarks and then thanked his wife for her support.
"To my wife, you alone have taught me the meaning of selflessness and sacrifice to service. You are the kindest and most compassionate, loving person I know on this Earth," Rutherford said. "Thanks for supporting and serving alongside me all these years as a devoted and loving wife, loving mother to our precious daughters and granddaughter, and friend to all."
Rutherford also commented on the service of the brigade staff he has worked with during his tour in Korea.
"As the Army Civilian Creed states, we are responsible for supporting the mission," Rutherford said. "Without your support, the mission does not get accomplished. All of you have such big hearts. You make me feel like I'm always welcome, never forgotten."
