ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. - The majority of seats in the Post Theater were filled April 18 with members of the community interested in receiving the most current updates from post leaders and Garrison directors during the first Installation Town Hall Meeting, which replaces the quarterly Community Action Council meetings.
Col. Orlando Ortiz, deputy installation commander, hosted the event which featured remarks from Maj. Gen. Robert Ferrell, APG Installation Commander. Ferrell commended the Garrison staff and then shared some of the "Hot Topics" challenging senior leaders today. He said they include maintaining quality of life for Soldiers, civilians and their Families while standing up a smaller Army in a "constrained fiscal environment" amid manpower/budget reductions.
In addition, attendees received briefings from Public Works; Military Housing/Picerne; Transportation; Kirk U.S. Army Health Clinic; Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation; the Post Chapel; and AAFES; as well as information about ongoing demolition projects, Armed Forces Week and Army birthday plans and Spring and Summer activities. In addition, Karen Holt of the Chesapeake Science and Security Corridor briefed listeners on upcoming traffic changes related to the Route 715 construction project which will affect APG commuters for the next year.
"The bottom line," Ortiz said, "is that on a quarterly basis we will bring service providers to the table to review where they are as far as serving you."
