Fort Sill, Okla.--Soldiers from A Battery, 3rd Battalion, 13th Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Sill, Okla. deployed to Afghanistan on March 31 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Soldiers from A Battery deployed to support 1st Infantry Division in northern Afghanistan.

The battery prepared for this deployment by conducting multiple field training exercises and a culminating training event with the 1st Combat Aviation Brigade.

The field artillery battery will rely on its seasoned veterans to lead first-time deployment Soldiers into combat. The battery has a lot of artillerymen and senior non-commissioned officers who have deployed before.

Approximately 100 other Soldiers and family members gathered at the final formation to give their farewells.

When the battery deployed, they left a rear detachment to provide support for the deployed soldiers and handle any stateside mission. The rear detachment and the Family Readiness Group that all units have available for Soldier's families, give Soldiers peace of mind knowing that someone will help spouses take care of business at home so the Soldiers can accomplish their mission.
