The U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School will hold a Special Forces Regimental Day ceremony at 1 p.m., April 5 at the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School on Fort Bragg, N.C.
The ceremony will be held in front of Kennedy Hall with the dedication of the Kennedy-Yarborough Statue, which was commissioned and donated by Ross Perot. In conjunction with the statue dedication, ceremony attendees will honor the 267th Special Forces Qualification Course graduating class.
The statue commemorates the moment President John F. Kennedy designated the green beret as the official headgear for Special Forces Soldiers in front of Brig. Gen. William P. Yarborough, then-commanding general of the U.S. Army Special Warfare Center.
Ross Perot is a life-long special-operations supporter and an honorary member of the Special Forces regiment.
The SFQC, which is run and managed by SWCS, focuses on core tactical competencies, specialty skills, survival and regional language and culture skills necessary for Soldiers to join one of the Army's active-duty or National Guard Special Forces groups. The SFQC graduation ceremony marks the formal induction of each Soldier into the Special Forces regiment, where they may first wear the Special Forces tab and Green Beret before their Family members, peers and friends.
Additionally, to provide guests with an appreciation of the capabilities of the Army's Special Forces Soldiers, numerous exhibits and demonstrations will be displayed.
