ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. - A member of the Army Contracting Command --Aberdeen Proving Ground won the Army Materiel Command's 2010 Louis Dellamonica Award for Outstanding Personnel of the Year. Timothy P. Baker, Branch Chief with ACC-APG's Huachuca Division, Fort Huachuca, Ariz. was among the recipients announced by AMC earlier this month.This award recognizes outstanding accomplishments that significantly contribute to AMC's mission. Nominees are judged on how their initiatives measurably improve their work environment, how they motivate and inspire fellow employees to improve or increase the quality of their own work, and how well they are viewed by peers, subordinates, and supervisors. The award was named in honor of Louis Dellamonica, a general engineer at the Hawthorne Army Depot, Nev. Dellamonica's 65-year career exemplified integrity, innovation, leadership, and outstanding dedication to AMC's mission. Each year AMC selects 10 members, military and civilian, which meet the established criteria and stand out as model employees."It's truly an honor to be recognized by AMC," Baker stated. "I'm also very appreciative of my leadership for nominating me and providing me with rewarding career opportunities."Baker is known as "Tim" within ACC-APG and he is chief of the Operations Branch, supervising over 50 contracting employees. He was raised in upstate New York and graduated from Cortland State University as a biology major. After graduation, he traveled to Arizona to visit family but decided to stay to pursue an advanced degree. Baker received his career start in contracting by joining the Air Force where he served 10 years on active duty in the Acquisition Corps and he retired as a reservist lieutenant colonel with 21 years.After the military, Baker worked as a high school teacher in Sierra Vista, Ariz. but was drawn back to the contracting career field. Armed with over 30 years of experience as a warranted contracting officer, he accepted a position with a contracting division now known as the Huachuca Division of ACC-APG. He joined the AMC team 2 ½ years ago when ACC was activated as an element of the command."Mr. Baker continuously and positively motivates and inspires his subordinates, coworkers, superiors and customers," stated Debra Parra, Chief, Huachuca Division. "He has extraordinary leadership skills and dedication to excellence which are reflected throughout the organization. He manages an overwhelming workload, but remains focused on successfully accomplishing the mission in support of our warfighter."
