FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. -- 4th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade hosted its weekly Leader's Professional Development training Friday here as the brigade prepares for the III Corps "Warfighter" exercise slated for early summer.

"This warfighter exercise will have a high intensity conflict, major combat operations 'feel' which is very unique," explains Maj. John Morrow, 4th MEB operations officer.

As a Nation at war in persistent conflict, the focus for the last ten years has primarily been counterinsurgency based, but will now shift to meet the demands of more offensive and defensive facets, he said.

In response to these demands, the 4th MEB LPD was created and geared toward future warfighting missions.

The 4th MEB LPD program consists of several sessions dedicated to discussing and analyzing the six warfighting functions: movement and maneuver, fires, protection, intelligence and mission command (formerly known as command and control), and sustainment.

Friday's sustainment class was presented by Maj. Billy Tucker, 4th MEB logistical officer.

"The brigade staff must work together to foster communications between the warfighting functions," said Tucker. "It is essential to sustain the force, to win the battle."

"Without logistics, you can't sustain…you can't win a war," he said.

4th MEB leaders are slated to conduct 13 additional LPD sessions geared toward the brigade's participation in the III Corps exercise.

"These LPDs have been invaluable to the senior members of the brigade staff as we 'reset' our training regimen and plan and prepare to conduct the very challenging III Corps Warfighter exercise," said Morrow.

"Everything we do as a staff, including LPDs, is of great interest to the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence, the proponents of the Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, as well as the engineer, military police, and chemical regiments because this is the first unified land operation-focused, Corps-level warfighter exercise involving a MEB," he said.

The 4th MEB is the second active-duty MEB established within the Army and was activated October 2008.
