KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany -- In an effort to recognize and honor the commitment of civilian employees, the 21st Theater Sustainment Command held a Length of Service and Recognition Awards ceremony at the Kaiserslautern Community Activity Center on Daener Kaserne here Feb. 3.
The ceremony is held annually by the 21st TSC and honors awardees for every five year interval they achieve while assigned to the 21st TSC. This year employees were recognized with as little as five years and as many as 40 years of service to the U.S. Government.
Nearly 90 Department of Defense and local national employees were on the list for recognition and more than 60 were actually in attendance to receive their award.
Brig. Gen. Aundre F. Piggee, the commander of the 21st TSC, was the host for the ceremony. Piggee also presented the awardees with their LoS certificates as they were honored.
"The length of service ceremony is one of the avenues to recognize all that you do for this command and provides an opportunity to convey our thanks for your hard work and dedication," said Piggee. "Every day you insure mission success for the 21st TSC and you emulate our motto, "First in Support.'"
During the ceremony the 21st TSC also took the time to recognize several employees for other awards such as the Superior Civilian Service Award, the Achievement Medal for Civilian Service and several certificates of achievement.
Following the presentation of the awards Piggee was joined by the youngest and oldest 21st TSC employees regarding the number of years as U.S. Government employee and together they cut the ceremonial cake.
"I think it's a great honor to receive this award," said Mr. Rene Tapia, a unit management team supervisor for the 21st TSC support operation section and a native of Flint, Mich. "There are people who want to do the job because they want to do it. I would encourage the civilian awardees to continue to support the war fighter. Let them do their job while we can do it from here."
"You have remained flexible and nimble in an ever changing environment as the U.S. Army and the U. S. Army Europe are transforming. Even as the work load and pressure have increased, your professionalism and dedication have not wavered," said Piggee. "We would not be able to complete our mission without you. Thank you for your service and thank you for your outstanding contributions to the 21st TSC."
