
FORT EUSTIS, Va. -- Gen. Robert W. Cone, commanding general of U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, recently paid a visit to the U.S. Army Transportation School's Maritime and Intermodal Training Department's Simulation Training facility and interacted with Soldiers and instructors in the training environment.
Donald Topping, acting director of the Maritime and Intermodal Training department, and Col. Stephen Farmen, USATS commandant, greeted Cone as they began the simulation training facility tour where Cone was able to see how the training technology USATS provides will help the Army of 2020.
"MITD and USATS incorporate state-of-the-art training aids, devices and simulators to train Soldiers and Warrant Officers the necessary skills to operate and survive in the unified land operations environment," Topping said. "U.S. Army Transportation School is working to incorporate the tenants of Army Learning model 2015 to create a blended learning environment that supports training at the point of need and for through the lifelong learning process."
Cone observed several technology-driven simulation exercises, including the Vessel Bridge simulator and the All Terrain Lifter, Army System. These simulators are used to further help USATS complete its mission to train Army transportation Soldiers, civilians and members of other services as well as develop leaders and build the future Army transportation capability.
As the tour came to a close, the TRADOC commanding general visited a Warrant Officer Basic Course to understand the type of training experience TRADOC Soldiers receive. Chief Warrant Officer 5 Thomas Wilson, TC Regimental warrant officer gave Cone a summary of the 31-week course and explained that courses like these go above TRADOC standards to make sure Soldiers are well prepared to move further in their military career.
