HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD, Ga. - The lined-up shovels with construction helmets mounted on the handle marked the ceremonious occasion of an upcoming Family housing community at Hunter Army Airfield. Community leaders gathered for the groundbreaking ceremony of Hunter Ridge, Jan. 12.
"We commemorate the construction of another new neighborhood on Hunter Army Airfield for Soldiers and their Families through continued partnership between Balfour Beatty Communities and the United States Army," Joel Jacobs said, deputy project director for Balfour Beatty Communities at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield. "We are proud to provide Soldiers and Families access to a safe, quality, affordable and well-maintained housing and community they choose to call home."
Hunter Army Airfield Garrison Commander Lt. Col. Edward Kovaleski was the guest speaker.
"The new community will include 98 quality three and four bedroom homes and amenities including play grounds and parks for our Soldiers and their Families," he said. "These homes will include open floor plans, energy efficient appliances, covered porches, fenced backyards and garages."
The construction effort towards a new Family housing community for Soldiers and their Families is just an example of the commitment of the Army Family Covenant.
"We continue to deliver quality housing to meet the promises we made in the Army Family Covenant with not just words but with deeds to demonstrate the Army's dedication to sustaining and partnering with Soldiers and their Families," Lt. Col. Kovaleski said.
The groundbreaking ceremony concluded with the singing of the Dog Face Soldier song, Army song and slicing of the cake.
"I want to thank all of you for attending," Lt. Col. Kovaleski concluded. "Thank you for supporting those who support us every day. Support, defend, Rock of the Marne!"
Hunter Ridge's estimated time of completion is November.
