For its dedication in helping to exceed Value Engineering (VE) goals consistently over the years, the VE Team at Picatinny Arsenal was recently recognized for its accomplishments.
Brig. Gen. (P) Gustave "Gus" Perna, Commanding General of the Joint Munitions & Lethality Life Cycle Management Command, met with the team Nov. 30, 2011 and praised its work.
The team consists of four persons the Strategic Management and Process Office of the Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center headquarters, and one person in the G-3 Acquisition and Systems Management Office within the Program Executive Office for Ammunition.
Collectively, they serve as the primary authority on VE for the Picatinny site. They provide and implement procedures and training for Picatinny's workforce and work closely with Picatinny scientists and engineers on their Value Engineering efforts.
As part of their mission to manage, supervise and support the VE program throughout the acquisition life cycle, they help provide the impetus to generate and execute VE programs as part of continuous process improvement in development, manufacturing, production and fielded items.
The five recipients of the commander's coins are surrogates for Team Picatinny. Perna recognized that over the last five years, VE accomplishments included validated cost savings of more than $154 million, which exceeds the goals of higher headquarters goals by more than 300 percent.
Individual program savings ranged from $17,000 to $86 million in FY11. Engineering success in the past include numerous Army Materiel Command and Department of Defense Value Engineering awards.
