SAN ANTONIO -- Monday is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, recognizing a true American hero. Let's celebrate the life and legacy of a man who brought hope and healing to our Nation and commemorate the values he exemplified in his life and teachings: courage, truth, respect, integrity, humility and service.
These same values are at the core of what the Army strives to cultivate in each and every Soldier and Civilian. They are what make the Army the Strength of our Nation. As you enjoy this holiday, take a moment to reflect on these values and on the strength in our commitment to serve each other.
MLK Day is part of the President's United We Serve initiative, calling on all Americans to make a positive impact in their communities through volunteer efforts. This special holiday provides a great opportunity to honor Dr. King's vision through a day of community service.
As you head into the long weekend, let me remind you to watch out for your own safety and for your family and friends. Be aware of potential risks in your surroundings and take appropriate precautions. You are part of the team making Army installations stronger, more capable, and more effective in supporting Soldier and Family readiness. We need you back, alive and well.
Thank you once again for all your hard work in support of our Nation, Army, and the Installation Management Community. Have a safe and relaxing weekend.
Support and Defend!
