PENTAGON, Washington D.C. (Jan. 12, 2012) -- The Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy and Environment met with the South Atlantic Division - Corps of Engineers and Fort Benning leaders during a visit to U.S. army Maneuver Center of Excellence.

During her two-day visit, the Honorable Katherine Hammack, ASA (IE&E) met senior leaders of the South Atlantic Division and Savannah District Corps of Engineers, Maneuver Center of Excellence, and Fort Benning Garrison leaders.

The scheduled visit provided Hammack an overview the Corps of Engineers Savannah District, the Maneuver Center of Excellence, and Fort Benning's energy initiatives.

Hammack received firsthand updates on the installation's construction projects and strides being taken toward energy efficiencies, BRAC environmental impacts, land acquisition concerns and Fort Benning's Methane Processor site.

In addition to aerial and windshield briefings, Hammack walked the Corps' hospital project and Warrior in Transition sites currently under construction on Fort Benning.

Hammack, accompanied by Sgt. Maj. Tracey Anbiya, ASA (IE&E) senior enlisted advisor, also spent time at the Non-Commissioned Officers Academy and dined with several NCOs assigned to the Academy before touring the Harmony Church training area and National Infantry Museum.

Before returning to the Pentagon, Hammack answered questions from local television and newspaper reporters. During the interviews she stressed the importance of reducing the Army's energy consumption across all installations.
