AAFES to give military families opportunity to bag $50,000 in shopping sprees

DALLAS (Army News Service, Nov. 22, 2006) - To help military shoppers from going into the red this "Black Friday" weekend, the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) will provide an opportunity for servicemembers to win one of ten $5,000 shopping sprees.

According to the National Retail Federation, the average American shopper is expected to spend nearly $800 on gifts this holiday season. During what is traditionally some of the busiest shopping days of the year, customers who stop by their exchange Nov. 23-26 can enter to win part of $50,000 in shopping sprees through the SONY/ Military StarSM sweepstakes.

"While shopping Thanksgiving weekend is an American tradition, it can also be expensive, especially if you don't shop the exchange," said Richard Sheff, AAFES' chief marketing officer. "This sweepstakes is our way of giving back to customers who exercise their exchange benefit by shopping with AAFES. Even those who don't win the sweepstakes will come out on top at the exchange with tax-free savings and prices roughly 20 percent below the competition."

No purchase is necessary to enter the sweepstakes. Military shoppers simply fill out an entry form at participating exchanges for their chance to win one of ten $5,000 AAFES gift cards. Personnel with exchange privileges can find the exchange nearest them, as well as contact information to confirm holiday hours, by logging on to the store locator link at AAFES.com.
