WEST POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 9, 2012) -- The Army Hockey team helped raise prostate cancer awareness with a "House of Blues" promotion during a home contest on Jan. 6.
The Black Knights faced Atlantic Hockey Association rival Canisius and a bevy of events were planned to raise awareness. The first 2,000 fans through the turnstiles were presented with commemorative bracelets and the first thousand also received blue T-shirts.
The Black Knights donned special blue jerseys for the contest as well. Army hockey players helped organize the event and have helped invite fans through social media.
In addition to the jerseys, T-shirts and bracelets, literature was available in the Tate Rink lobby to educate and a ceremonial faceoff was also part of the festivities.
"I'm proud of the players for wanting to get involved and wanting to help the community," said Army hockey head coach Brian Riley. "This was a way they could give back. The hockey community has done a great job of raising awareness for this terrible disease and it says a lot about the caliber of players we have that they volunteer their time to support this cause."
Canisius broke a 2-2 tie with a pair of goals and beat Army, 4-2, Friday night and also beat them 2-1 on Saturday in the Atlantic Hockey Association contests at Tate Rink.
