ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. -- Command Sgt. Maj. Lebert O. Beharie will take over March 2 as senior noncommissioned officer of the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command, officials announced Jan. 3.

Beharie will assume duties from Command Sgt. Maj. Hector Marin, who will retire after more than 30 years of Army service. Beharie is scheduled to visit RDECOM and APG Jan. 9 and 10.

The command sergeant major serves as the principal adviser to the commander in enlisted matters. He is responsible for the training, readiness and discipline of Soldiers under his charge.

Beharie has served as the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade's command sergeant major at Fort Campbell, Ky., since April 2009. He is pursuing a bachelor of science in professional aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Beharie, who enlisted in 1986, has four combat tours in the Persian Gulf. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, South West Asia Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, NATO Medal, Kuwait Liberation Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Good Conduct Service Medal award, the Master Air Crewmember Badge and the Air Assault Badge. He was awarded the bronze medal for the Order of Saint Michael.
