WIESBADEN, Germany (Dec 16, 2011) -- A recent member of 5th Signal Command was recognized by the Pentagon yesterday as one of the winners of this year's Department of Defense Chief Information Officer Awards.
Chief Warrant Officer Joshua L. Parks, a former plans officer from 5th Signal's 7th Theatre Tactical Signal Brigade in Schweinfurt, Germany, took second place honors. The award winners were chosen because of their exemplary performance in improving information delivery and dissemination, management capability, cost reduction and savings, a broad user base, process, mission impact, or net-centricity, according to the DOD news release.
"Chief Parks was the technical expert that directly resulted in the success of our brigade on a variety of missions," said Lt. Col. Hugh McCauley, the brigade's operations officer.
"Normally we are supposed to have seven or eight warrant officers handling all these missions, but through his superb leadership and expertise he did them all on his own," said McCauley.
This year marked the 11th anniversary of the DoD CIO Award and is the highest honor recognized by the department for achievement in information management and information technology. More than 70 nominations were submitted worldwide including both civilian government employees and military, according to the DOD news release.
McCauley said that Parks recently changed duty station to U.S. Army North at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, but left his mark in 7th TTSB as a mentor and role model for technical superiority and leadership.
