A three-member team from the 470th Military Intelligence Brigade who recently attended a computer forensics investigations course proved they had learned their skills by winning a cyber challenge at the course's conclusion.
The team included Chief Warrant Officer Robert Mace and Sgt. 1st Class Michael Leeber, who attended the SANS (Systems Administration, Audit, Network Security) Institute's Computer Forensic Investigations -- Windows In-Depth course Nov. 28 through Dec. 3 at the Westin Riverwalk Hotel in San Antonio.
The course was designed to help examiners master computer forensics, learn critical investigation techniques, and deal with today's ever-changing technologies and environments.
The classes culminated in a day-long cyber challenge for teams to demonstrate the computer forensics skills. The brigade's team won the challenge and was awarded the SANS Institute's Digital Forensics "Lethal Forensicator" coin, or RMO (for "round metal object.")
All three team members are Department of Defense certified computer examiners. Mace is also a DoD certified computer crime investigator.
The SANS Institute offers courses to enable security professionals, auditors, system administrators and network administrators to share the lessons they are learning and find solutions to the challenges they face.
