Working as a contracting specialist with the 409th Contracting Support Brigade, Staff Sgt. Rodney A. Whitaker is an integral part of the 622nd Contingency Contracting Team, Grafenwoehr, Germany.

Whitaker works alongside seasoned German local national contract specialists constantly training and preparing to conduct contingency contracting missions across the European and African continents.

Whitaker's currently providing direct support to the Nebraska National Guard's 1969th Contingency Contracting Team in a training rotation at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center Hohenfels Training Area.

A native of Albany, Ga., he has been key in preparing the 1969th CCT for its Kosovo Force rotation by training on contracting procedures and software tools.

"Providing contracting support for the different missions is great. I like to see the missions take place and know that contracting played an important role in the success of the mission and the morale of the Soldiers," said Whitaker.

In his first 11 months as a contract specialist, Whitaker administered contract actions and contingency contracting missions to include the 67th Normandy D-Day celebration and joint multinational exercise Combined Endeavor 11 for a combined value of more than $2.5 million.

A fire control specialist prior to his reclassification, Whitaker is currently pursuing his bachelor's degree in business management as he continues to work toward his level one certification.
