PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. - The Presidio held its quarterly garrison awards ceremony at the Presidio's Weckerling Center Oct. 21.

"This is a special event that recognizes the hard work, dedication, and achievements of our fine garrison workforce," said narrator Courtney Shingleton during the opening remarks. "It's the examples of the professionals we recognize and honor today that makes the U.S. Army Garrison, Presidio of Monterey an outstanding place to work."

The event was hosted by garrison commander Col. Joel J. Clark.

Also officiating were Pamela von Ness, deputy to the garrison commander, and Command Sgt. Maj. Olga Martinez, garrison command sergeant major.

Following an invocation by Presidio of Monterey Garrison Chaplain (Maj.) John Lim, von Ness took to the podium to introduce newly hired garrison employees.

New employees

Garrison command section: Pfc. Mathew Vieira.

Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation: AJ Ayala, Steve Cardenas, Alicia Ennis, Damion L. Garrett, Dianna George, Martin Odom, Detonica Orr, Phoenix Redstone, Justin Shellar, Dolores Techaira, and Juan Zarate.

Military Personnel Division: Mary Casao and Catherine Salazar.

Education Center: Christopher Stens.

Religious Support Office: John Edwards, Chaplain (Maj.) John Lim, and Sgt. 1st Class Erika Shaw.

Time-in-service awards

In recognition of five years of service: Whitney Bliss, Carissa Garcia, Erick Martinez, Laura Prishmont-Quimby, Sean Burger and Angie Loreto.

In recognition of 10 years of service: Anthony Torres, Maria Atkins, LaDonna Andrews and Michael Bruun.

In recognition of 15 years of service: Linda Mathews and Dennis Oaks.

In recognition of 20 years of service: Lenore Grover-Bullington.

In recognition of equal to, or greater than, 25 years of service: Michael Foy, Virginia Ramos, Susan Bliznik, Edna Love, Joaquin Finona, Joselyn Pieri, Michael Bello and Pamela von Ness

Directorate of Emergency Services

Edward Wilkins received a plaque for Security Guard of the Year.

Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation

Beth Jensen received a Garrison Certificate of Appreciation for the execution of the Feds Feed Families program.

David Slater received a Garrison Certificate of Appreciation for his work with the Schools of Knowledge, Inspiration, Exploration and Skills and the Kids on Site program.

Angela LeMaster received a Department of the Army Achievement Medal for Civilian Service for her involvement in the execution of multiple new programs and events.

Directorate of Human Resources

Liz Clark received a Combined Federal Campaign Certificate of Recognition from United Way.

William Thomas received a commander's coin for his accomplishments while preparing for the Voting Program inspection recently conducted by the Office of the Inspector General.

Mary Casao received a Department of the Army Official Commendation for ensuring all Soldiers' Military Personnel Records were expeditiously processed and updated.

Rashad Gibson received a Department of the Army Official Commendation for his involvement with students enrollment on ATRRS and DLIFLC's databases.

Cathy Salazar received a Department of the Army Official Commendation for her involvement in the Transition and Retirement Section.

Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security

Monterey Police Department Deputy Chief Michael Aspland received a commander's coin and Garrison Certificate of Appreciation for his involvement in the multi-jurisdiction earthquake exercise conducted on Sept. 23.

James Oteri received a Department of the Army Achievement Medal for Civilian Service for his involvement with the communication infrastructure to the Installation Operations Center.

Darryl Powe received a Department of the Army Achievement Medal for Civilian Service for his involvement with the 512th Signal Company groundbreaking and 50th anniversary event.

David Synder received a Department of the Army Achievement Medal for Civilian Service for his involvement with the Contractor Verification System.

Mike Stuebinger received a Department of the Army Achievement Medal for Civilian Service for his involvement in the joint multi-jurisdictional earthquake exercise on Sept. 23.

Shawn Marshall received a Commander's Award for Civilian Service for his involvement with the National Incident Management System, the Crisis Action Teams and the Mass Transportation Benefit Program.

Directorate of Public Works

Dennis Oaks received a USAG Certificate of Achievement for his involvement in the response to a potential hazardous chemical spill.

Jason Zeller received a USAG Certificate of Achievement.

Public Affairs Office

Whitney Bliss received a Department of the Army Official Commendation for her involvement in the suicide-prevention training program.

Steven Shepard received a Department of the Army Official Commendation for his involvement in the Presidio of Monterey website.

Office of the Staff Judge Advocate

Jay Love received a Department of the Army Achievement Medal for Civilian Service for his involvement in the Affirmative Claims Recovery Program resulting in the recovery of $695,700.

Louis Kolowski received a Commander's Award for Civilian Service.

Darwin Strickland received a Commander's Award for Civilian Service for his innovative techniques and involvement in outreach programs.

Michael Bruun received a Department of the Army Certificate of Achievement for his involvement in managing the Presidio of Monterey's ethics program and providing accurate and timely legal advice regarding immigration, fiscal, contract, labor and general administrative law.

Additionally Monterey Peninsula College Fire Academy Cadets were recognized with USAG Certificates of Appreciation for their involvement in the installation simulated earthquake scenario conducted Sept. 23. They were Jason Bouchard, Christian Cordova, Daniel Elnaggar, Andrew Feist, Kevin French, Rocky Guerra, Patrick Guerrero, David Hernandez, Chase Lambert, Sal Mercurio, Shane Reimer, Kyle Ritchey and Josh Rodriguez.

Jennifer Amorin and Debra Simpson were recognized with USAG Certificates of Appreciation for their involvement in the Environmental Management System audit.

Additionally, Dan Carpenter, Robert Guidi, Tania Leisten, Lorrie Madison and Laura Prishmont-Quimby were recognized for their involvement in the Real Property Master Plan Draft Environmental Impact Statement Public Meetings.
