CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait -- Brig. Gen. Joe Bass, commanding general of the Expeditionary Contracting Command and Alexandria, Va. native, visited 408th Contracting Support Brigade, and contracting Soldiers here Nov. 7.

During his visit, Brig. Gen. Bass took the time to explain to the Soldiers the importance of their mission within Third Army/ARCENT's area of responsibility.

"There are huge demands across the Army and the joint services because of peace around the world," stated Brig. Gen. Bass. "Contracting is a worldwide command with Soldiers around the globe and we must continue to train Soldiers and get them the experience they need, so we can deploy down range and around the world."

Col. Michael Rogers, commander, 408th Contracting Support Brigade and Detroit, Mich. native also spoke about the support within Third Army's AOR.

"We really enjoy supporting Third Army," Rogers stated. "It gives us as contractors a sense of being and we feel like we are nested within Third Army to sustain the fight in their AOR."

Rogers went on to state "we are aligned with Third Army and we are here to support them with their contracting needs."

After the speeches Brig. Gen. Bass expressed his appreciation by presenting Certificates of Achievement to contracting officer representatives in support of Operation New Dawn and who have exceeded the standard with their hard work and dedication.

"It was an honor to be recognized by Brig. Gen. Bass," said Capt. Tobias Articar, Third Army/ARCENT, logistics, joint operations planning and execution systems branch chief, and Chesapeake, Va. native. "Having a general officer and Command Sgt. Maj. John L. Murray, Army Contracting Command, take the time out of their schedule to recognize and thank CORs here goes to show you how truly important CORs are to the effective management of contracts and ensuring that the government is getting what they pay for."

Rogers also had a few words for the 408th CSB Soldiers who received awards.

"These awards are to recognize the Soldiers for their outstanding responsibilities and services to their brigade commands," said Rogers.

As the visit came to an end Brig. Gen. Bass said that the contractors are here to provide support in the continental United States, outside the continental United States and expeditionary support to include contingency and humanitarian operations.

Brig. Gen. Bass along with Third Army's commitment to the well-being of its Soldiers, as well as the Servicemembers of partner nations remains a priority. Brig. Gen. Bass and Third Army are helping to inspire, educate and inform all contracting Soldiers of current and future missions.
