Army Contracting Command professionals traveled to Fort Knox, Ky., Oct. 17-20, for the Joint Dawn 2012 mission readiness exercise working group.

Hosted by the 904th Contingency Contracting Battalion, Fort Irwin, Calif., the group spent the week developing scenarios and synchronizing events in preparation for the contracting pre-deployment exercise to be conducted at Fort Bliss, Texas, from Jan. 19 through Feb. 3.

"Our focus was to lay the groundwork for warrior task training and RCC (regional contracting center) operations that prepare our contracting professionals for deployment," said Lt. Col. Jeff Phillips, 904th CCBn commander. "Smarter people than me gathered in a room and created scenarios, built existing contracts from theatre in a PD2 (procurement desktop-defense) database and developed an assessment tool to provide personnel feedback."

Noncommissioned officers led by Sgt. Maj. Dennis Richardson, 904th CCBn senior enlisted advisor, planned, coordinated and resourced the warrior tasks training phase of the 17-day exercise, Phillips said.

"The NCOs developed a comprehensive plan to train deploying personnel in critical areas, focusing on medical care, movement control (mounted), egress techniques and basic marksmanship," he added.
