Living near Hershey, Pa., and working a summer job at the local chocolate factory while pursuing a bachelor's degree in law enforcement and corrections, Gerald H. Taulbee didn't even know what procurement meant until he entered the Army Materiel Command internship program in
1982.
Almost 30 years later, the Penn State grad says he has experienced a myriad of unique and challenging contracting missions from construction to systems acquisition.
Today, Taulbee serves as a supervisory contracting officer and branch chief with the Edgewood Contracting Division of the Army Contracting Command -- Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.,
where he executes contracting support for chemical and biological defense programs. Some of these programs include providing direct contracting support for chemical demilitarization programs managed by the U.S. Army Chemical Materials Agency.
It's a job Taulbee takes pride in. He has a son serving in the Army as a staff sergeant who has deployed twice to Iraq and a step daughter who is an Army second lieutenant currently
serving in Afghanistan.
"It's all been fun," he said. "My job helps make the world a safer place."
