MILAN, Tenn. -- On September 27, 2011, Brig. Gen. Gustave Perna paid a visit, his third since taking command in November, 2010, to Milan Army Ammunition Plant.
During this visit, Perna reviewed the latest improvements to the installation, after which he called on Esterline, one of MLAAP's valued industrial tenants, for a briefing.
"I am here for three reasons," Perna explained. "To get ahead of challenges, to assess and improve my command, and to demonstrate my support for Milan leadership."
Perna, commander of the Joint Munitions Command and the Joint Munitions and Lethality Life Cycle Command, recently has placed added focus on MLAAP.
The general has made Milan one of the top priorities of his command by emphasizing the need to bring jobs to MLAAP through industrial tenants.
"We are one team of three different entities trying to accomplish the same goal--to create jobs," Perna said of the government, contractor, and community leadership with whom he met during his visit. "Our success is hinging on what we do in the next few months."
In addition to reviewing improvements at the installation, the general also received a briefing on the plant's safety program, as well as an update on efforts to attract industrial tenants.
Finally, Perna urged his listeners, "Always think bigger than yourselves…Start shaping the environment for what you want to achieve."
Perna kicked-off his visit by recognizing several of MLAAP's employees for their excellent performance during recent audits. Ron Neff, Risk Management Division chief, Bill Corrigan, environmental coordinator, and David Robinson, quality assurance specialist, all received Commander's Coins and a hearty handshake from the general.
Perna's first visited Milan in January, 2011, followed by a second visit in June, 2011, for a change of command ceremony when Col. Fochs took over the command of MLAAP.
