Trunk or Treat, one of the tri-border region's most popular annual events, is Friday, Oct. 28, 5:30 to 7 p.m., on USAG Schinnen where US/NATO ID cardholders and registered Dutch guests can enjoy colorful displays competing for recognition, seasonal goodies and plenty of family fun.

"USAG Schinnen's Trunk or Treat is legendary in the tri-border region. The staff is very excited. Construction of the haunted house is under way and it's going to be great," said Ms. Kimberly Wayland, USAG Schinnen's Acting Deputy to the Garrison Commander.

The fun begins promptly at 5:30 p.m. with Military Police and staff present to ensure fun is had by all safely. Participation costs $3 or ,2 for each participating child. The fee enables children to receive a small gift before embarking on the Trunk or Treat path, ensures there's enough candy for everyone and covers some of the costs associated with building the haunted house.

Guests of US and NATO ID cardholders must register by providing full name and passport number by email to paousagshi@eur.army.mil or by calling 0031-46-443-7331 no later than noon Oct. 26.

The Trunk or Treat idea is simple and is a great outreach opportunity for the entire tri-border community. Families or organizations in the tri-border military community can reserve a table or a parking space for their vehicle or display. Registrants must come with at least 400 individually wrapped pieces of candy. Information brochures or other family-safe trinkets are welcome.

Organizations on display this year include the Netherlands Law Center, St. Francis Parish, American Spouses Club, Community Bank, Andrews Federal Credit Union, 66th

Military Intelligence, 39th Signal Battalion, NCSA, Masons Lodge 147, NATO AWACS, HHC AFNORTH Battalion, USAG Schinnen Provost Marshal, The Exchange, USAG Schinnen Command Group and Directorate of Logistics, USAG Schinnen's headquarters detachment, Boy Scouts and the Better Opportunities for Signal Soldiers.

There is a competition for the most original Halloween display and to win participants must be creative! Registration for a car or table is free. Space is still available but is going fast, so if you wish to decorate your trunk or promote your tri-border service, call 0031-46-443-7561 as soon as possible. The 400 pieces of candy brought by those with a 'trunk' or display serve as a "starter" because as the evening progresses, Family & MWR staff will deliver more candy to each vehicle or display to ensure there's plenty of candy for everyone throughout the evening.

Aside from the haunted house and Trunk or Treat path, there will be child and youth activities ongoing in the Community Activity Center including face painting, games and photos taken for sharing on the USAG Schinnen Facebook page -- why not go online now and 'like' the USAG Schinnen Facebook to ensure you're connected to receive updates about events, school closure information and more as it happens.

The main exchange will close 7 p.m. Oct, 28, while the shoppette will remain open until 8:30 p.m. and the Food Court until 9 p.m.

The Bowling Center and Pin Point Café will also be open during this event until 9 p.m.

Everyone coming on to USAG Schinnen the evening of Oct. 28 is advised that it'll be very busy and safety is a primary concern. Please drive carefully and observe the directions given by event staff and Military Police.

So,… get your costume, candy bags and festive spirit ready to join the tri-border community at the annual Trunk or Treat on USAG Schinnen Oct. 28, 5:30 to 7 p.m.
