Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation Opens House

By OCPANovember 17, 2006

The Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC) will host its annual open house Nov. 18.

The focus of the tours will be to answer questions and provide information about WHINSEC's organization, curriculum, and value as an International Institute. Those desiring to participate signed up well in advance on a first come first served basis until tour capacity for the Institute was reached in mid November. Visitors are expected to come from all parts of the U.S and normally consist of high school, church and college groups. There are at least 450 visitors anticipated this year.

For those who miss the November open house, individual or group visits can be arranged independently throughout the year by contacting the WHINSEC Public Affairs Office.

The WHINSEC open house is one of the ways the Institute continues to demonstrate its dedication to transparency and openness to the community. Lessons learned from each year's program are closely reviewed by the Institute and used as a means for improving the following year's program.

The results of the open house will also be briefed to WHINSEC's Board of Visitors (BoV) on Nov. 30 during its annual meeting at WHINSEC. The BoV is a Congressionally legislated oversight committee composed of 13 members, four of which are members of Congress. Representatives from the Department of State, Senior Defense and Army Leadership, along with participants from the religious and professional communities make up the remaining nine Board members.
