Hailing from Lebanon, Hassan El-Annan works as a contract specialist at the 409th Contracting Support Brigade's Regional Contracting Office in Bamberg, Germany.
Though he has worked with the U.S. government for more than 25 years, it wasn't until 1993 that he began working in the acquisition field.
In 1983 during much of the unrest in the Middle East, El-Annan made the decision to migrate to Germany from Lebanon after determining it was to dangerous to raise his family there.
"It was a regular thing for us to have to go downstairs because of the continuous bombing in the city," he explained.
El-Annan had a friend in Germany and he jumped at the opportunity to relocate to a safer environment. It seemed the almost nightly bombings had taken their toll.
Upon arriving in Germany, El-Annan immediately sought a job with the U.S. government. Fluent in German, English and Arabic, it was little wonder that he could find employment.
"Thank goodness I got a job with the U.S. or I don't know what I would have done," he said.
Now 25 years later, El-Annan prepares solicitations and contracts for the purchase of supplies, services and non-personal services as part of the Expeditionary Contracting Command's mission to provide effective and responsive contracting support for overseas installation operations.
His eagerness to meet the needs of the Soldier and his willingness to execute multiple tasks has made El-Annan a noted asset to the organization.
"Sometimes Soldiers will call or email me with questions about equipment, service and maintenance," he said. "I do my best to help the Soldiers with their requirements."
