WIESBADEN, Germany (Sept. 16, 2011) -- The colors of 5th Signal Command's 255th Signal Detachment were cased on Wiesbaden Army Airfield, signifying the inactivation of 255th Signal Detachment.
The 255th was constituted in May 1944, and has since been activated and inactivated several times over the years. The final activation was on Oct. 16, 2002 on Wiesbaden Army Airfield within 102nd Signal Battalion.
"The Soldiers of 255th no longer install and maintain radios in Huey helicopters outside Saigon; they install and maintain network devices, telephones and cable infrastructure at the Dagger Complex in Darmstadt," said Lt. Col. Eric Aslakson, commander, 102nd Signal Battalion.
The Soldiers of 255th Signal Detachment will be realigned within 102nd Signal Battalion and continue with their current mission.
"In many ways, this organization change will be transparent to our senior commanders, and to our customer base -- and that is the way we like it," said Aslakson.
