FORT STEWART, Ga., Sept. 14, 2011 -- Why is Marne Division proud of the Fed Feeds Families food drive campaign this year? Because Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield collectively worked together in support of the food drive campaign.

The end result is that Stewart-Hunter collected the most donations, 17,911 pounds to be exact, more than the other 20 plus installations that participated in the campaign.

According to the campaign's website, food banks across the National Capital Region and around the country are facing severe shortages of non-perishable items, and children are left without school nutrition programs. Federal employees nationwide are stepping up to meet this challenge by gathering two million pounds of food for families in need.

After some Third Infantry Division units heard that Fort Stewart was in third place, they stepped up their support and contributed to the food drive campaign.

The donated food items went to the two local food banks in Savannah called America Second Harvest Food Bank and Manna House. For more information about Feds Feed Families visit www.fedsfeedfamilies.gov.
