Lt. Col. Robert Manning received the Meritorious Service Medal in appreciation for his service from January 2010 to July 2011 during a farewell awards ceremony Aug. 25, 2011, hosted by Maj. Gen. Michael S. Linnington, commanding general of the Joint Force Headquarters - National Capital Region/U.S. Army Military district of Washington (JFHQ-NCR/MDW) at Fort McNair. Manning was heralded as a transformational leader and credited with developing a strategic communications program that ensures a single communications focus throughout the diverse command. JFHQ-NCR plans, coordinates, maintains situational awareness, and as directed, employs forces for homeland defense and defense support to civil authorities in the National Capital Region Joint Operations Area to safeguard the Nation's capital.

Manning's next assignment is at the Pentagon as the Public Affairs Officer for the Under Secretary of the Army.
