FORT EUSTIS, Va. (August 19, 2011) - Lt. Gen. Keith Walker was promoted and assumed directorship of the U.S. Army Capabilities Integration Center (ARCIC) during a ceremony hosted by Gen. Robert W. Cone, commanding general of the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, this morning at Fort Eustis, Va.
"This assignment is an opportunity to continue the business of Soldiering and during this time of war, there is no place else Valerie and I would rather be," he said.
Prior to this assignment, Walker served as the commanding general of the Brigade Modernization Command at Fort Bliss, Texas. Under Walker's leadership, BMC hosted the Network Integration Evaluation exercise, the Army's six-week formal test of six Army Programs of Record and evaluation of 29 development and emerging networked and non-networked capabilities. BMC is also one of ARCIC's units.
"Keith has provided significant leadership contributions by making the Brigade Modernization Command the centerpiece for network integration while stressing the importance of possessing a holistic integrated network that has a single integration location and reduces stove-piping of that information," said Gen. Cone.
"Our purpose in Training and Doctrine Command is … to take our collective experience and skills in fighting, and to provide our Soldiers with the capabilities they need to fight and win our nation's wars," said Walker. "And for those of you who'll leave this ceremony and return to work in this big, new building, know that what you do makes a difference."
"We are at a crossroads in our Army as we come to the end of commitment in Iraq and ultimately Afghanistan to think about what the future of our Army is about. Keith possesses all the characteristics to be the man on point for TRADOC and our Army to think of those challenges particularly in a resource restrained environment," said Cone.
As ARCIC director, Walker will lead development and integration of force capabilities across the Doctrine, Organization, Training, Materiel, Leadership & Education, Personnel, and Facilities (DOTMLPF) for the Army within a Joint and Multinational environment to support Joint Force Commanders. ARCIC is also the lead TRADOC agency for Unified Quest, Operational Energy, requirements determination for the Ground Combat Vehicle, and TRADOC's International Army Programs Directorate, among other programs.
