DEARBORN, Mich. -- Engineers and scientists from the U.S. Army’s Research, Development and Engineering Command’s communications-electronics center will join their peers in government, industry and academia at the Ground Vehicle Systems Engineering and Technology Symposium, in Dearborn, Mich. August 9-11.

CERDEC’s focus at the conference will be highlighting systems engineering capabilities aimed at enabling and protecting vehicle platforms. Jill Smith, CERDEC director, will join her counterparts from RDECOM’s armaments and tank and automotive centers for the Systems Engineering Panel, August 9 at 11:00 AM to discuss CERDEC’s overarching efforts. James Henning, acting associate director of systems engineering for the center, will participate in the Systems Engineering Enabling Cross Domain Collaboration panel, August 11 at 1:30 PM.

Several CERDEC researchers will display technologies, participate in panel discussions and present research findings throughout the week.

Displays and presentations given by CERDEC engineers and scientists are as follows:

- CERDEC Army Power will be exhibiting a compact, one-man-portable 1 kW JP8 fuel-powered generator demonstrator that meets military field performance requirements.

- Visit CERDEC’s Army Systems Engineering Office’s exhibit of the CBM+ Communication Architecture project.

- Dr. Mahbub Hoque’s presentation, “Embedding platform antenna systems in ground tactical vehicles,” will take place August 10 at 1:00 PM during the Vehicle Electronics and Architecture mini-symposium. Hoque’s presentation discusses the integration of conformal and embedded platform antenna systems into Army ground platforms and armor as a way to provide enhanced, multi-functional communications.

- Erick Ortiz, Tim Garner and George Palafox will discuss a more efficient method of antenna placement on tactical vehicles. Their presentation, “Antenna placement optimization on tactical vehicles using a hybrid method " modeling and simulation and hardware in the loop" August 11 at 4:00 PM, is part of the Modeling and Simulation, Testing and Validation mini-symposium.
