CAMP TAJI, Iraq -The Multi-National Corps-Iraq commanding general, Lt. Gen Raymond Odierno met with senior leaders from the 1st "Ironhorse" Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division to discuss the progress of security within the 1st Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st BCT, 1st Cav. Div.'s area of operations, Nov. 21.
A brief meeting with local sheik leaders, Iraqi Army leaders and Ironhorse leaders was held during lunch, which briefed Odierno on the significant decrease of enemy activity enabling the focus to shift to establishing essential services. They also discussed the need for funds and support from the government.
After the meeting, the group toured various streets of Sab Al Bor. Odierno and the commander of the 2nd Brigade, 9th Iraqi Army Division (Mechanized) greeted and conversed with the local business owners.
"This was a significant visit, it gave Gen. Odierno the opportunity to talk to the leaders and see first hand the improvements to security in the area," said Lt. Col. Kevin MacWatters, commander of 1-7 Cav. "It helps him understand various essential services issues the locale faces and what is necessary in order to give the surrounding area the support and funding needed to become self sustaining."
