Q: Tell us about yourself.
A: Belinda Winston, Contracting Officer (1102). I started working in contracting in 2004 when I was active duty, I retired with my level II in Nov 2008 after 20 years of service. I begin working as a Level IV GPC Program Coordinator with the 410th Contracting Support Brigade, Regional Contracting Center Americas from Aug 2008-Jun 2010. June 2010 I rejoined the contracting arena and fixed my eyes on the DCCC program in Dec 2010, now I find myself back in Iraq doing contracting again.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I like most about my job is being able to continue to serve, meeting new people from different parts of the world.
Q: Why did you volunteer to serve with the Deployable Cadre Program?
A: First of all the monetary benefits; second, the experience/knowledge of working in a deployed environment as a civilian; third, team effort of continued service alongside our war-fighters.
Q: Why did you volunteer to serve with the Deployable Cadre Program?
A: A day on the job here is different compared to in the states. In the states most people do not work 7 days a week and 12 hour day those are some long hours that you usually see at end-of-year. The good news is you stay so busy time flies; there is always work to be done.
Q: Describe what it is like to serve/work alongside the warfighter, Soldier, etc.
A: It is a little different working with the warfighter as to being the warfighter. But, I can relate to their schedule and their huddles, they are on the same mission as we are and then some. All of us - Soldiers, Airmen, Navy, DoD Civilians, Contractors, British, Marine, NATO, Italians Forces - eat, go to church, shop, go to the gym, go to MWR functions - we do it all together.
Q: If you can speak directly to warfighter, Soldier, what would you say to them?
A: Thank you for your service, because freedom is not free and may God bless your every step as you continue to secure our freedom.
Q: What do you do when you are not working?
A: On my time off I look at movies in my room until I fall asleep then get up and do the day before all over again.
Q: What are 5 things you absolutely could not live without while you are deployed? What are some of the things you miss?
A: Starbucks coffee, freedom to get in your car and drive where ever you want, going to my beautician to get my hair done, real shopping, my house...privacy and my family and friends.
Q: Can we give a shout out to a family member for you?
A: I want to send a shout out to my mother-Georgia Winston, who is the best mom--supports me no matter how she may really feel, Daughter-J'onice Bolden-Williams the best daughter who like my mom supports me anyway, Son-n-law-Devin Williams, grandchildren-Jukari Bolden, Camille Williams, Josiah Williams, sister-Cotys Winston, brother-James Winston and sister-n-law-Barbara Winston.
