YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea - The 9th Annual Good Neighbor Awards was held here at Dragon Hill Lodge July 11 to recognize service members and civilians who have worked to keep the ROK-U.S. Alliance strong.
Gen. Walter L. Sharp, commander of United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command and U.S. Forces Korea; Republic of Korea Army Gen. Jung Seung-jo, deputy commander of Combined Forces Command; Eighth Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. John D. Johnson and Command Sgt. Maj. Robert A. Winzenried, command sergeant major for United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command and U.S. Forces Korea were present at the ceremony.
A total of 24 service members and civilians were presented with awards in seven different areas. Seven of awardees were from Eighth Army.
The Good Neighbor Program was established in 2003 and its programs have strengthened the ROK-U.S. Alliance.
Before the award presentation, Sharp welcomed and thanked the awardees..
“Your active leadership and participation in these activities has been outstanding,” said Sharp. “Our mutual strength and understanding is strong and is going stronger because of the great leaders and friends that are in this room. This is an alliance that is ready fight and win, ready to stand shoulder-to- shoulder at a moment’s notice because our citizens have the opportunity to learn so much from each other and we thank you.”
