REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. -- Ms. Teresa W. Gerton, former Executive Deputy to the Commanding General at the U.S. Army Materiel Command, gave her official farewell during an afternoon retreat ceremony here, July 11.
Gen. Ann E. Dunwoody, AMC commanding general, hosted the ceremony and presented awards for Gerton's service as the Executive Deputy to the Commanding General.
"Good Luck, godspeed and thank you for 29 years of being Army strong," Dunwoody said ending her remarks.
"It's not easy to leave an organization like this one but we have a great staff and it's easier to know I leave it in great hands. It was an honor and pleasure to work with each of you," Gerton said.
Gerton gave a heartfelt thanks to her family and credited them for being the reasons she is here.
"They remind me that my place in the universe doesn't have anything to do with what does or doesn’t happen at work," she said.
She was responsible for managing all aspects of HQ AMC’s BRAC-directed move from Fort Belvoir, Va. She also lead, on behalf of the commander, the Secretary of the Army’s directed study on the Optimization of Materiel Development and Sustainment as a special assistant to the commanding general.
As the Executive Deputy to the Commanding General, Gerton was responsible for the preparation and sustainment of materiel for military operations to support full spectrum operations, current global operations, contingency planning, supply chain management, and sustainment of the warfighters; for all personnel management; information systems,
technology, modernization, and assurance; facilities management and industrial operations; intelligence, counterintelligence and technology protection; and resource management efforts and actions across all appropriations and funds during programming, budgeting, and execution.
John B. Nerger assumed duties as Executive Deputy to the Commanding General on May 31, 2011.
