DoD seeks input from Soldiers on MWR programs

By U.S. ArmyJuly 11, 2011

The Defense Department is working to make sure each service, and DoD as a whole, is providing the “right” MWR programs and services to Soldiers and their Families.

DoD is currently conducting a survey to gauge the opinions of MWR customers world-wide. Because of shrinking defense budgets, it’s more important than ever before to ensure the services are meeting Soldier’s and Family’s needs. A random sample of 138,000 active duty, National Guard and Reserve Soldiers will receive a reminder email this week from the Department of Defense (MWRSurvey@osd.mil) to lend their voice to the survey and the way ahead for these programs.

The survey is designed to evaluate MWR program delivery for DoD as a whole and for each military service. This second biennial survey also asks for feedback from selected members of the National Guard and Reserves.

Since the results will be used to improve program options and service delivery, it’s important to gather a statistically valid number of responses. DoD is asking everyone who received an invitation to complete the survey and help gauge the services’ ability to meet the MWR customer’s needs.

Service members were chosen through random sampling, and are being asked to assess their experience with the MWR program overall and with a core set of MWR programs including fitness, libraries, and recreation programs (outdoor recreation, recreation centers, automotive skills, single member services, and leisure travel). The survey questions cover customer service, operation hours, facility condition, and quality of services provided among other items.

Participation is voluntary, anonymous and confidential. No information that can identify service members will be associated with responses.
