FORT BRAGG, N.C. (June 29, 2011) " The Army Ground Forces Band’s state-of-the-art training facility came a step closer to becoming home for the U.S. Army Forces Command’s band today as the post Department of Public Works conducted a thorough and detailed inspection.
“I like to put myself in the position of a building’s user who wants the most bang for the buck and the most professionally constructed job,” said DPW Real Property Inspector James “Pete” McEachern as he moved through the building with representatives of the Army Corps of Engineers and LifeCycle Construction Services, the company that has overseen the overall project.
Meanwhile, members of the band conducted a less rigorous but enthusiastic inspection of their new facility’s offices and rehearsal areas.
The building is scheduled to be turned over to the post on Thursday, July 7, after the discrepancies turned up by the DPW inspectors have been fixed.
The new 18,748-square-foot building will consolidate the band’s operations, which were scattered around various locations at the unit’s former home at Fort McPherson, Ga. And the acoustically superior rehearsal areas will serve to fine tune the band’s performances.
The Army Ground Forces Band provides musical support for the Army's largest command, U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM). It has already been receiving requests as well to perform around North Carolina as part its community outreach mission.
